Halloween 2013

Halloween was the first holiday that we celebrated in our new house. The kids were very excited to get to go trick or treating door to door! This year they all went as superheros which pleased this mama, because as much as I try to not be totally neurotic, I love to have their costumes match a theme.

Connor went as Batman, Maggie was Batgirl, Logan was superman and Ryan was Spiderman.

This mama was also really thrilled that I finally have a house to decorate! We did not carve pumpkins but we did decorate little pumpkins for the mantle and we got metal jack-o-lanterns for the front of the house.

Easy Halloween Costumes

With all the hectic-ness that is my life right now, we're going for super easy Halloween costumes this year. And by super easy I mean "cheap/free and no hassle''. On October 31st, we'll actually be driving back from Kansas (only 5 more days left until we head home!) and the kids won't get to go trick or treating. Hence the main reason why I'm not shelling out the time and/or money for "real" costumes. Secondly, they have so many dress up toys at home, that this was too easy:
And Sissy's was just as simple...
Part of me feels really guilty because I usually go all out for Halloween. Themed costumes, hand-made, I mean something a bit more thoughtful than this but you know what? The older boys are ECSTATIC to be ''home depot'' guys and Peanut chose to be a Conductor all on his own when we found the overalls (in the garage, inside a tote...forgot I even had those!). Sissy will either be an OU cheerleader or a chicken, just depends on the weather. Her chicken costume is Bubba's old costume but pretty stinking adorable.
She may not agree though. Those pants were ticking her off pretty fierce.

The busiest weekend ever!

Whew, am I glad this weekend is over! It was fun but man oh man did we pack a ton into three days. Traveling out of town (twice) to visit family, an (adult) costume party, trick or treating with the kids, and general life busyness of being a family of six.

On Friday, we drove 2 hours and spent the day with B's mom (and family). The boys call her Yeuy, and she had yet to meet Miss Sweetcheeks so it was top priority.
Is she not the most precious little girl you have ever seen?
On Saturday we had a kinda lazy day. Driving to visit family on Friday was fine but we knew that on Sunday we were going to be visiting the grandmas so we took a lazy kinda day. Saturday evening, B and I attended a friends 30th Birthday/Costume Party. (Let's skip the fact that when all your friends are turning 30 it means you're right around the corner. Eek!) It was really nice to get out of the house and be with ''grown up's" for a bit. Granted because Sweetcheeks won't take a binky, let alone a bottle, she attended as well.
On Sunday, Halloween, we drove the kiddos a little over an hour to visit the grandma's and show off their costumes. They were super excited!
Cousin Belle was there as well...
Ms. Sweetcheeks was wide awake as well.
Looking pretty cute sporting her Halloween headband and Pumpkin costume
Sunday evening, we took the boys Trick or Treating. Well, Sweetcheeks went too but she hung out in the carrier...obviously not eating any candy. We only took them up and down our little street and they still managed to fill their buckets! The boys, well they were pretty ''spooky"-
So that was our Halloween and weekend!

Boo!

(I am terrible about finding the time to blog...I apologize! Things are hectic and we have some big changes happening at the Tic Tac household...more about that later though.)
one again, I took a pic facing the sun and no one wanted to look

Leaves are falling, temperatures are dropping and Halloween is just around the corner. Halloween in my favorite holiday and my kids are following in my footsteps. They decided last spring that they wanted to be Scooby Doo for Halloween. Well eventually that evolved to being the 'bad guys' from Scooby Doo. A Mummy, a Skeleton and ''The Ghost of Pirate Redbeard'' to be exact. Well on Saturday, they're costumes were debuted to them...Mommy had finally finished making them.{with the exception of Peanut's...his was Bubba's old costume from 2 years ago} If I had been thinking, I would have made up a tutorial for Pooks' mummy costume but I didn't think ahead...sorry!

On Sunday, we took the boys to the Zoo for their annual Halloween Trick or Treat trail. They were beyond excited to show off their costumes and "be spooky". So without further ado:
The Mummy
The Skeleton
Ghost of Redbeard (aka, a Pirate)
and while I don't have a picture, Sweetcheeks was a tutu-wearing Pumpkin :) She was super tired and everytime B would hold her up for a pic, she'd start screaming. We'll work on getting her pic this week...it will definitely happen though.

The kids had an absolute blast at the Zoo. They raked in a ton of candy and compliments. We saw one other skeleton, one pumpkin, quite a few pirates and no other Mummy's. It was a gorgeous day and I'm really glad that we ventured out. It was our first real public outing as a family of six and it was a success. (I'm not counting quick grocery trips).
As if a group of six wasn't enough, we actually went with Hollie, baby Aubrey and Landon (above), in addition to one of Hollie's good friends and her 2 kids. Total we had 8 kids, 4 and under and they all did wonderful. No tantrums or meltdowns...it was a lot of fun!

sneak peek....

yep, it's that time of year again. and to all you neigh-sayers who are thinking ''it's september 5th...is she serious?" yes, yes i am. and just take note that last year (and the year before), i started even earlier... i had bought bubba's costume in august. i ♥ halloween!

(oh and we haven't yet purchased/made peanut's costume...yet. we're at a loss because we can either go the ''lion, tiger and bear'' route or just do jungle animals. but bubba was already a monkey and I don't like repeating.)
