AAAAGH!

just about sums up the last week in the TicTac household.

*sigh*

in the last week, every night B and I have been woken up by peanut anywhere from 3-7 times. seven times. in. one. night. so we're both running on little sleep and we're both a little cranky and at the end of our ropes. then B had drill over the weekend (which is stressful because we don't really get to spend the weekend as a family) so that meant we didn't get to sleep in.

so you're probably wondering "whats wrong with him?"

yeah, you and me both.

first we thought it was teething. he was fussy and he refused to nurse. then we thought it was a nursing strike. then we upped his solids thinking he wasn't getting full enough during the day. we tried tylenol/motrin, teething drops and gripe water. (not all at once people, i don't OD my kid! over the course of the week!) we tried offering water instead of nursing. we tried letting him cry it out. we tried co-sleeping.

nothing worked. i was at the point where i thought, okay maybe i just have a fussy kid. maybe it's separation anxiety and there isn't anything i can do.

this morning we had a breakthrough. he woke up with a slight fever. not exactly a great thing but it let me know that something wasn't right. then i saw that he had scratched the heck out of his left ear. this was my ah ha! moment. took him to see Dr. S and the little guy has a bad ear infection (in his right ear, ironically enough). he's on antibiotics and a motrin/tylenol every 3 hours routine. already, he is much happier! here's hoping we get SOME sleep tonight!

meanwhile, here are a few pics of him over the week. don't worry, he's happy in these! well most of them.
trying puffs for the 1st time
gnawing on a teething biscuit (for the first time)
and what happens when you take the biscuit away, just for a second to remove the piece he bit off (you know, so he won't choke. just a minor detail to him!)
and i didn't forget about bubba and pooks. here's a pic from the other morning (and pretty much a inside view of what every single morning looks like in our household).

sarcastic comeback from a 3 YEAR OLD!?

yep. bubba. *sigh* he was in a mood today. while at nanaw's today the following conversation took place:

me: bubba tonight for supper we're going to have waffles for supper.
b: waffles?? (said in total disbelief)
me: yeah, we're going to have breakfast for dinner, won't that be fun?
b: (looking at me as though i have an alien popping out of my forehead) yeah mommy and after i wake up from my nap, i'm gonna take a bubbles [bath]. (said in total sarcasm while continuing ''you must be crazy'' look)
b: that's silly mommy. you silly.
he seriously had THE most sarcastic tone, i cannot even begin to convey it through text. i told/asked my mom, if he's like this now what is 13 going to be like?

then not 10 minutes later on the way home from nanaws we had to stop because there was a firetruck entering the intersection. so we're sitting there as it goes racing by, sirens blaring and bubba says (clear as day and so matter of fact) "that firetruck going to those new apapamints [apartments] by my papas wook [work]. cause they on fire. they spray water on da fire." the freaky part of all of this:

it WAS the road you take to go to papa's work. and if you are curious, there is also a fairly new apartment complex by his papa's wook. how the heck my three year old has that sense of direction i have no idea...we've visited papa's work maybe 10 times since his birth?

crazy kid i tell ya.

who used the big boy potty today?

POOKS that's who! actually if you want to get technical (oh and trust me, I will!) he went pee-pee on the potty saturday night, sunday night, this morning when he woke up and tonight before and after his bath. what a big boy! i am so excited and thrilled at the idea of him being potty trained, it's like not even funny. i realize we still have quite the road in front of us (after he pee's he doesn't want undies or a pull-up only a diaper) but i am excited that he is showing so much interest already. he just turned two in may! he loves it when we all cheer for him so i think as long as we keep getting really proud of him and getting really excited when he goes, he'll keep it up.oh and remember last week when i mentioned that peanut had TWO teeth pop up? well they are finally through the gums enough to see when he smiles. what a cutie!
and a close up!
in that same post last week, i also left off saying i was going to work on some craft projects. well i'm doing the finishing touches to my apron (i ran out of bias tape if you must know) but rather spur of the moment i decided to make the boys aprons as well. they love to help me cook and they have their own pretend kitchen so i figured they would really like having aprons. well i was half right. bubba loves his. adores it, wants to wear it and show it off. pooks however has worn his once. he left it on for about 2 minutes and then pulled it off. hopefully it will grow on him. what's even more intriguing is the fact that to make both aprons, i only spent $1.67 (on a remnant of fabric) and that was so i could jazz it up with a "Cars" decoration. holla!
the fronts
(bubba's has a blue neck ribbon and pooks a red ribbon)
and they are reversible
bubba happily modeling his
using them today while ''helping'' me make meatloaf
and the coolest part? i seriously made both aprons during naptime from start to finish. so we're talking 2 fully finished aprons in less than 2 hours. pretty kick ass if i say so myself!

what a weekend, pt 2

okay i had to split up our fun weekend into 2 posts. i have a TON of pics and i didn't want to overload the last post ;)

okay, so where i left off: we had s'mores at nanaw & papa's then headed back to our house so that we could watch the city's display of fireworks. we live just 3 blocks away from the park where the fireworks are set off, so we were able to see them right from our driveway. which ended up being really fortunate for us because it started to rain right during the finale. the boys absolutely LOVED it. even little peanut, he was just bouncing around not a care or fear in the world. the little dudes just watched and hollered and pointed.

for the first time ever, we actually got to watch the fireworks and not just calm screaming children. woohoo for that! here is a little bit of what we were able to see from the comfort of our own driveway:

look at the little guys' faces--just in awe!
(pooks was saying ''boom'' each time)
a few shots from the finale/encore
hope you all had a happy and safe 4th!! isn't America just great?

what a weekend!

we had a very fun, very busy weekend. well a busy friday and saturday. today we're just hanging around the house. errands, laundry, dishes, cleaning, and coloring. just a lazy sunday and i love it. while the little dudes are coloring, B and peanut are napping and i finally get to upload and resize the pictures from our fourth.

on friday we had papa, uncle matt and auntie rachel over to our house for grilled steaks, potatoes, corn on the cob and ice cream sandwiches. (nanaw had other plans, she was invited though!) nothing says ''america'' like corn on the cob followed by ice cream :) the boys had so much fun playing and showing off.

saturday we headed over to nanaw and papa's for dinner. they made some delicious jerk chicken with mashed potatoes, awesome green beans (from papa bob's garden) and fruit salad. B bought some fireworks and the boys enjoyed watching along with doing some themselves. i know what you're thinking: "SHE LET HER TODDLERS DO FIREWORKS?" easy killer, they enjoyed thinking they were doing fireworks. in all actuality they stomped on those poppers or ''snappers'' and with assistance, they enjoyed snakes and those pull poppers that shoot confetti. it was pretty awesome that for the first year since having kids, no one was scared!

pooks stomping on the snappers. he loved them!

papa helping bubba pull a confetti shooter
(i'm totally drawing a blank on what they are called!)
B helping pookies do the same
pooks excited about his train that he picked out at the fireworks stand
bubba and B lighting smoke bombs
after a few rounds of fireworks, we gathered up to enjoy s'mores and red velvet cake. (can you tell which one i made? lol, red velvet cake is more nanaw's league of experience!)
naturally, pooks made a royal mess
and bubba may be the only 3 year old that can successfully eat a s'more without making a mess
i must point out that peanut was invited to the above festivites, unfortunately he slept through most of it. thus the lack of pictures :(

here are a few more family pics. uncle matt was the photographer and rachel assisted in attempting to get the boys attention...

part 2 coming soon!
